The boys and I picked out the book Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett at the library last week. We had a fun time reading it and afterwards I told Landy it would be fun make gingerbread cookies some time. I was picturing that time being more around November or December but during my grocery trip to Aldi yesterday I spotted gingerbread cookie mix and instantly knew I had to get some for Landy. I couldn’t wait to show him!
When Henley went down for nap today, our gingerbread adventure began!
I printed some simple coloring pages for Landy that matched our theme. It gave me some time to clean up the kitchen a little before we started baking.
We even found a cute little gingerbread story on YouTube to watch!
Then it was time to get baking! I went to get the cookie cutters out and it hit me that these were the cookie cutters my siblings and I used to bake with my mom growing up. Such fun memories and so special to me!
The supplies. I got over ambitious and planned on making some homemade frosting with powdered sugar but decided the red tube of icing we had was plenty and so much less work lol.
Landy was so excited!
All baked!
By the third batch I was a little weary of baking and about to throw the last bit of dough away until I pictured having cookies with my coffee in the morning and reconsidered ;) These were my solution.
Decorating time!
Tada! Such a fun memory.
Henley was happy to reap the benefits of our labor.
Do you like gingerbread? What’s your favorite activity to do with your littles? I’d love to read about it in the comments!
