Motherhood, Popular

For The Weary Mama

April 11, 2015

I can’t tell you how many times over the past four years since becoming a mama I googled something along the lines of “encouragement for tired moms”. The photo below is of me during probably the hardest season of motherhood for me yet. I’m smiling in the picture, but during that time I was a completely overwhelmed weary mama, still trying to get used to juggling two littles and in desperate need of encouragement.

Weary Mama

Being a mom is really hard sometimes. Like anything else, it has it’s highs and lows. But today if you’re weary or discouraged, this is for you.

Have you ever felt like you do the same thing every single day? The same routine day in and day out? Wake up. Make breakfast. Clean the house. Play with littles. Change dirty diapers. Refill the same sippy cups over and over. Lunch. More cleaning. Play dates. Dinner. Bath time. Bed time. Repeat.

Sometimes it can start to feel like it doesn’t have much value. That you would contribute more to the world by doing something else. Maybe do something more “important” with your time.

But that would be a lie. Mamas, you have one of the most important jobs in the world. Shaping and raising future generations. The fruit of your work may not always be seen on a daily basis but that doesn’t diminish it’s value. It’s a job not often given praise or accolades but it is SO rewarding. Whether you work outside the home or are a stay at home mommy, you will never regret the time you invested into your littles.

Every time you refill that sippy cup, wipe little faces clean, stay up all night feeding your newborn or read a bedtime story: you’re serving. Every time you sing “Jesus loves me” to your littles and tell them how special they are because God made them special: you’re evangelizing. You are on a mission field. It’s not as remote as Africa and it might not always feel like a mission field, but your home is exactly that. A place where you are raising followers of Jesus. Your reactions to things, your words and your actions are all being soaked up by your littles and shaping them into who God created them to be.

Remember that God gave your littles to you for a reason. Sometimes we might see our failures and think we are replaceable or unworthy of being a mommy. That other mamas are more fit for the task and could do a much better job. It just isn’t true. Your littles were handpicked for you by God. They want you to be the one to snuggle them and comfort them. They need you to encourage them and kiss their boo boos. You are the perfect mom for them simply by being you.

So if you haven’t heard this yet today, thank you for all you do and contribute to the world. You are amazing!

“Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.” Proverbs 31:29-31

Xo,

Chrissy

I must say…I am a working mom but I would give anything to be able to be the person caring for them day in, day out. I can see how it can become exhausting, dull, and how at the end of the day you want to run screaming for some adult conversation… But really… It’s the best job in the world. As u said .. It’s not easy but certainly a job worth living for. Xoxo

Love this Chrissy❤️ You are an amazing momma:) whenever I get overwhelmed I take a step back and begin to focus on what’s most important and that definitely is my family. I also ask God to reveal if I am doing too much in certain areas of my life and when I do that he instantly reveals it… It’s just up to me now to listen.

When I had my second child I was VERY overwhelmed. I think it wasn’t until my baby was 6 months that I felt confident enough to take them both out by myself! On the daily basis of being a mother, it does help to step back and look at the big picture. Thanks for the post Chrissy!

Sometimes I come back to this post and I just cry every single time… for a few reasons. Thinking about the season you were in and how beautiful and graceful you still were then when you felt like you were just losing it. Thinking about you taking your precious time to share this words that God put on your heart, thinking about the mamas who are at the end of their rope and need these truths. And lastly, thinking about when I’m a mama, how blessed I’ll be to have learned from you and to have read this encouragement. Love you times a thousand! xx
